Oversees TIR’s asset monetization efforts

Key role in the land acquisition analysis

Experience in timberland finance, law and operations in the forest products industry

Chris oversees TIR’s asset monetization efforts on behalf of clients by developing and executing land sale strategies that are designed to optimize the long-term investment performance of their portfolios. In addition, he plays a key role in the land acquisition analysis process.

Chris has a broad range of experience in timberland finance, law and operations in the forest products industry. He previously held a variety of senior leadership positions at Temple-Inland, including: vice president of treasury and investor relations; vice president of strategic resource planning; and, senior corporate attorney. During his tenure at Temple-Inland, Chris spearheaded the company’s efforts to sell 1.55 million acres of high quality timberland assets. The $2.4 billion transaction, which was executed on a tax-deferred basis, was a key element of the company’s strategic re-positioning initiative.  Chris also managed Temple-Inland’s treasury and investor relations departments through the financial crisis and the sale of the company to International Paper, which was concluded in February 2012 for $4.3 billion. In addition, he served on the company’s pension investment committee, which managed Temple-Inland’s $1.3 billion of defined benefit plan assets. Just prior to joining TIR, Chris headed the Mathis Property Group, where he consulted with a prominent family-office to evaluate investment opportunities in the timberland and alternative investment sectors.  Chris is a native of Texas and holds BBA, MBA and JD degrees from Texas Tech University. He also completed the executive education program at the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
